Moysiko gymnasio Geniko Lukeio

The music school of Larissa was founded in May 1992 and operates from September of the same year. Since 1999 it has operated as a Musical Lyceum in all directions. It has a 350-seat auditorium for concerts and theatrical performances, a lending library with about 7000 books, individual classrooms for individual music tuition which are fully equipped and a restaurant where every afternoon students are offered a complete meal at the expense of the State.

1The purpose of the founding of the music school of Larisa was and remains the aesthetic cultivation of students through music education, without overlooking general education. Our school is like all the high schools and General high schools of the country. Every student who has flair and talent in music, without having musical studies, can become a student of our school after succeeding in music skills examination. In addition to general education courses taught in other high schools-General high schools, in our school we have extra music lessons for fifteen (15)

hours per week. In music education courses our students study on an equal footing the Greek musical tradition and European (classical and modern) music. Also they are taught art, history of art and Theatre.

Students participate, apart from the courses, at various events (musical ensembles, theatrical performances, Art Competitions, sport events), in Maths, Physics and Chemistry-Competitions and international competitions such as Euroscola and Euso, often accompanied with discrimination. The music school has a Science Lab, a fully equipped Laboratory and two halls. It uses new technologies in all General or music education subjects with interactive whiteboards and projection systems in theaters.

Graduates of General music school have the same options with the other general secondary schools’ graduates. They have the opportunity to obtain a degree in Specialty Music (English harmony, Byzantine and Traditional music and all other institutions) after tests. Also the students during their studies are gaining valuable knowledge for higher musical education and experiences for future vocational rehabilitation. School staff comprises 100 teachers of whom 45 are teachers of General knowledge of all disciplines, as well as 55 individual organ music teachers and theorists. The school’s teachers are trained, with elevated qualifications. From the above 80 professors are permanent and 20 deputies and Part-time teachers.
