Elementary music school “Rusto Jurukov” – Kochani, North Macedonia
History of the school.
Our school was founded in 1956. The initial activities were entrusted to Risto Jurukov, whose name we proudly bear today. Music education enabled the revival of cultural activity in the entire city. Risto Jurukov, together with his colleagues and the students who participated in the orchestra and the choir, created the first Macedonian operetta which premiered in Kochani. Then Jurukov and the cultural icons from Kochani started working on the
preparation of other operettas, and each premiere was a cultural spectacle in Kochani.
The school today!
Today, OOMU “Rusto Jurukov” is a modern educational institution that nurtures young musical talents aged 6-14. 15 employees, including 12 teachers, 160 students and their parents permanently take care of its development. Within the educational activity, two programs are implemented: a nine-year program for instruments: piano and violin and a six year program for instruments: flute, accordion, guitar and traditional instruments (kaval, tambourine, drum…) The elementary music education is optional, students acquire it voluntarily, parallel to the regular elementary education. However, they achieve great results in the numerous national and international competitions in which they participate under the mentorship of their teachers. In the past years, through competitions, our students represented us in Italy, America, Serbia, Austria, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, as well as in North Macedonia.
